Frequently Asked Questions

I care for no more than 4 children at a time.
-
Frida’s Garden is a license-exempt, in-home childcare program with a maximum of four children. Keeping our group intentionally small allows me to create a very personal, flexible environment where we can follow the children’s interests and let the day unfold naturally.
Because we aren’t structured like a traditional childcare center, our days can be much more flexible. We can spend a morning exploring a new park, take the bike out around Boulder, follow an unexpected interest in the backyard, or decide that today is simply a good day to stay home and play. Field trips and exploring our community are a regular part of life at Frida’s Garden, rather than something we only do on special occasions.

Lucie is the sole caregiver at Frida’s Garden. There is no rotating staff, so you will always know who is caring for your child.
-
We spend an average of 3-4 hours outside, typically split between the morning and afternoon.
-
Frida’s Garden is open Monday-Thursday 8:30am–4:00pm.
Full-time care — 3 or 4 days per week: $1,800 per month
Part-time care — 1 or 2 days per week: $1,000 per month
*Tuition is calculated based on the total annual cost of care and divided evenly across 12 months. This means families pay the same monthly tuition throughout the year, regardless of holidays, planned breaks, or the number of days in a particular month.

Each family is provided with a copy of my yearly calendar, which includes all of my pre-planned closures to review before enrolling.

Because I am the sole owner and caregiver at Frida’s Garden, there will be times when I need to close due to illness or circumstances outside of my control. For this reason, each family is required to have reliable backup care in place upon enrollment. One of the trade-offs of having a small, one-person program is that there isn’t a rotating staff or substitute caregiver. The flip side is that you always know who is caring for your child, and your child gets to build a consistent relationship with the same person every day. I understand that unexpected closures can be disruptive, so I do my best to avoid them whenever possible and provide as much notice as I can when I need to close. description

Sleep and rest are so important for growing brains and bodies. I’ve found that the kids at Frida’s Garden tend to have a really positive relationship with rest time, and it’s probably the most routine part of our day.
We set up our mats and usually tuck our stuffies in before slowing down and winding down together. When it’s time for nap, I lay with the kids in the nap room and read a couple of dream visualizations and sing songs until everyone is asleep. Nap time is typically around two hours.
That being said, children are never pressured to nap. After an active morning outside, most of the kids naturally settle into sleep, but if a child isn’t tired, I’m always happy to sit with them quietly and read a book or find another calm way to rest their body. The goal is for rest time to feel like a peaceful part of our day, whether or not a child actually falls asleep.

Yes, absolutely! Almost every morning, we head out to explore local parks and trails using our Bunch Bike, which safely seats up to six children with seat belts. Embracing the child-led spirit of Frida’s Garden, the kids usually help decide where our daily adventures take us. Since we are situated right on the bike path, there are also plenty of wonderful opportunities for neighborhood walks and local exploration. We definitely love staying active and exploring our surroundings!

Living in Colorado, we are all familiar with experiencing multiple seasons within a single week. Despite that, we head outdoors every day, regardless of the weather. If conditions ever become unsafe, I follow the BVSD inclement weather policy and their discretion to close for the day. On very rare occasions, we will adjust and spend the day inside, which usually feels like a special treat for the kiddos.

To keep families connected, I share photos and updates throughout the day using the Brightwheel app. These updates are usually posted during nap or rest time, as well as at the end of the day.
